    What to Look For

This preserve is a 24-acre parcel owned by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The preserve supports a diversity of open meadow, copses of low-growing trees, and shrubby thickets. It is a great area to seek migrant songbirds. Rare rock elms occur, and abundant prickly-ash and wafer-ash shrubs support legions of giant swallowtail butterflies. The museum also owns five other preserves on the island, totaling about 93 acres. Scheele is located on the east side of Monaghan Road, just north of Hamilton Road.
