What to Look For
The only sizeable marsh on the island, this approximately 20-acre wildlife area is a deepwater mixed-emergent marsh and supports a variety of herons, waterfowl and shorebirds in season. It is also a great place for dragonfly-watching. Also look for Blanding's turtle and Lake Erie watersnake. Petersen Woods is a two-acre woodlot contiguous with the northwestern corner of the wildlife area. Located at the "neck" of the island at its northeastern corner, on the north side of Deist Road.
